Michael Bublé Reflects on the Iconic Duet with Celine Dion on “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” and How the Performance Still Fills Him with Gratitude

The two stars performed together during Michael Bublé’s 2015 NBC Christmas special.

Throughout Michael Bublé’s impressive singing career, one moment stands out as “iconic” — his 2015 duet alongside fellow Canadian superstar Celine Dion.

On December 10, the Season 28 Voice Coach took to Instagram to reflect on just how much that moment still means to him today. A full decade has passed since Bublé and Dion performed “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” — the 1971 holiday hit by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, and the Plastic Ono Band — and it’s a moment that Bublé will never forget.

Alongside a clip from the performance, the 50-year-old father of four wrote on Instagram: “10 years later and this is still one of those performances I look back on with so much gratitude. What a gift it was to share that song and that stage with the incomparable @celinedion. An iconic moment … and also the last time I let anyone stand next to me who can out-sing me by THAT much.”

For someone who has performed as many duets as Bublé has over the years, the star calling this particular one with Dion an “iconic moment” shows fans just how much respect and love he has for the five-time Grammy winner.

The two performed the duet during Bublé’s 2015 NBC prime-time holiday special Michael Bublé’s Christmas in Hollywood, an evening that featured timeless performances and visits from special guests like Blake Shelton, Eva Longoria, and more.

Between preparing for the two-part Live Finale on Season 28 of The Voice and traveling to the Vatican to perform for (and meet!) Pope Leo XIV, Bublé is also working on his upcoming country record.

Bublé revealed during an interview on the Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce podcast that he’s been working on a country album, a project he described as a “love letter” to the genre.

“I love country music, and I have loved country music my whole life. I went to Nashville, I have a producer named Dann Huff… and I have made a love letter to country music,” Bublé revealed. “It’s old-school, it’s not like, modern, it’s my interpretation. I have never had an experience that has been better musically. I am so excited to put out this record — I don’t know if 10 people are gonna love it, but I don’t care.”

From unforgettable duets with fellow legends to singing a reggae version of his hit songs, Bublé’s music career, as he described his collab with Dion, is truly “iconic.”
