Lulu has opened up on her whirlwind marriage to Bee Gees star Maurice Gibb in a recent episode of her self-titled podcast, admitting “I lost myself” in the relationship.
The Scottish singer, 76, met the late musician and songwriter in 1969 at the age of 20 before marrying him in the same year.
After their split in 1973, Lulu married John Frieda in her second high-profile romance.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Lulu Podcast, the singer welcomed actress Kristin Scott Thomas, 64.
When the latter detailed how being in the acting industry can sometimes lead to feelings of loss of identity, Lulu touched on how past relationships have had the same impact on her.
“Sometimes I think that we as actors… I don’t know about other performing arts, you do need to stop for a bit and just have a bit of life,” Scott Thomas commented.
“Because if you’re always just pretending to be someone else and if your everyday job is going in, five o’clock in the morning to seven o’clock at night, you’re going and you’re pretending you’re someone else, and then everything else in your day is geared towards that thing…

“It just gets a bit sort of exhausting and I think you really do have to take time out.”
Seeking to gear the conversation to personal relationships rather than occupational, Lulu asked: “But what about the other thing, for instance, in relationships?”
She elaborated further by admitting: “I have lost myself. Like lost my own identity a bit.”
Going on to explain how her marriages seemed to cost her her sense of self, she added: “Because I was Lulu and then I was Mrs Gibb, and then I was Mrs Frieda.
“I tended to… Because I think of what my old idea of having a relationship or a marriage is, is that it’s ‘forever happy’ and there’s a white picket fence and everything is wonderful once you find the man.”
The Shout! hit-maker concluded her revelation: “Now I know that’s not necessarily true.”
It’s not the first time Lulu has made such comments about her relationships.
During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show last year, she reflected on her marriages and reiterated: “When I was young, I wanted a white picket fence and I wanted the dream.
“To be honest with you, now after having two marriages and I picked two good guys, I needed to get to know myself a bit more,” she admitted, again alluding to some sort of identity crisis.
She has also been direct in the past about the part alcohol played in her marriage to Gibb.
During an appearance on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, Lulu confessed: “We thought we were king and queen of the world and were fabulous.
“The drinking was a part of it but we shouldn’t have got married in the first place… we should have just had a romance.”
