Shy 12-year-old Aussie Annie Jones stuns AGT with a fearless “Dance Monkey” performance

Annie Jones, a 12-year-old Melbourne, Australia native, appeared modest and shy when she first appeared on the America’s Got Talent stage in Season 15, welcoming the judges with a soft voice that was hardly audible above a whisper. However, everything changed as Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey” began to play.

Annie’s attitude abruptly shifted. Her fears vanished, leaving behind a passionate stage presence and a strong yet humorous voice. She sang the song’s challenging vocal parts with precision and passion, bouncing between verses with compelling intensity. The performance was so lively that it was hard to make amends with the bashful girl who had left just a few minutes before.

The judges were obviously ecstatic as the crowd erupted in cheers. Simon Cowell, who is known for having extremely high standards, lauded her obvious star potential and the joy she gave to the stage, while Howie Mandel mockingly called her “a beautiful little dance monkey”. Before giving her four resounding “Yes” votes to send her on to the next round, the other judges nodded in agreement and showered her with praise.

Annie’s struggle to get there added to the impressiveness of her audition. She entered one of the scariest scenarios in the entertainment world when she flew 15 hours from Australia to Los Angeles, and she handled it flawlessly. People praised her as “a breath of fresh air” and “the future of pop music” after sharing her audition on Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube, and the performance went viral right away.

Annie Jones’ AGT moment was authentic, sincere, and heartfelt in a world where young talent sometimes seems staged. She brought the stage to life, not just singing a song. As the audience stood up, it became evident that the shyest person in the room is sometimes the one you remember the most.
